I had nightmares of my little baby getting into the cat room either to play in the kitty litter, eating the unimagineable and/or torment our cats in the process. The Safety 1st Baby and Pet Gate was an absolute lifesaver. It kept baby out and allowed the kitties to do their "doody" in peace. Both of my precious parties were safe, and I had peace of mind. You do need to climb over for in's and out's, but it's not that great a feat. I'm 5'4" and need whatever exercise I can get anyway (note: practice makes less shin dings). My friend Kathleen has a pooch doing the drive-thru and helping himself to their kitty's mcnuggets daily. We are not alone in this, so I'm happy to share our household's solution because it really works and costs less than most gates out there. No assembly is required. It fits all sizes of doorways and hallways. Nothing needs to be drilled or screwed into walls. Perfection! And how could anyone resist that adorable cat-shaped opening -- definitely created solely for us simple humans to appreciate.

The Carlson 0930PW Extra-Wide Walk-Thru Gate with Pet Door was the other gate we bought for the most trafficked room. The baby figured out how to climb through, so we've since closed the pet door and sawed off one of the rungs. So if you're trying to keep small babies and fur babies out, i.e., smaller dogs and inquisitive toddlers, there may be some tools required and alteration involved. If you want out-of-the-box ready and don't have a grossly huge cat (one of ours is pretty rotund), the Safety 1st Baby and Pet Gate is the way to go.

Polka Stripe Review: Poor Customer Service

On May 29, 2011, I purchased what we affectionately call a backup "square" for our little girl. She can't sleep without it, and in between washings, we felt we needed another one. So I went to Polka Stripe, the company that makes her more commonly named "burpie." After ordering it, I waited and waited and waited the reasonable amount of time for such an online purchase, two weeks. Then I called. After approximately four unanswered emails, a phone call and fortunately no charge from them, I am emailing them one last time to cancel the order in writing. At the okay price of $12 for a little square of fabric, they charged another $10 to ship, which I thought was a rip off.

Note to you, Polka Stripe: People/companies work their asses off to merely keep customers happy and their doors open. You showed zero professionalism, and your lack of response to a potential customer was unacceptable and just plain rude. You may appear to be an accomplished company with a website, but this experience has clearly taught me to never ever judge a book by its cover.

I am taking my business elsewhere. I'll update my readers as to what I finally end up getting for my little girl.

It's because of this ErgoRest Articulating Arm Support that I can sit at my computer for hours on end being productive (or not so productive) with virtually no forearm/wrist strain. Tis' a beautiful thing. Costly because you buy them individually and not by the pair, but my comfort level and transcript productivity paid for it alone in the first week of use. Well worth it. An extra shout out from my back and shoulders as well.

Normally, I think Ivanka Trump dresses very "Madison Avenue," so it's no surprise that the Ivanka Trump Boutique is located there. This particular outfit she wore while traveling from Hawaii to L.A. is way more my speed. I really dug this sweater when it first came out in the season but passed it up. Great to see me, a woman with a beer budget, have something in common with a woman with a champagne budget. She probably paid the full price of $78 (still a great price!). I was pleased as punch to find it on sale. Also, congratulations on your pregnancy, Ivanka!

Update: Some bloggers say Ivanka is wearing the Juliette Jake Fair Isle Skinny Throw above that costs a whopping $285. You'd think that to be the case. Nope. Apart from the expensive one being wool/acrylic and the affordable one being acrylic, if you look closely at the last row of design along the bottom of the Juliette Jake, it does not match Ivanka's. She is indeed wearing the cheaper one. Just another example of how the rich stay rich and the smart-thrifty look like a million bucks.

I get practically everything for Baby at Walmart. I'm there virtually every week along with all the other families that I used to notice there pre-birth. Our family is now one of "the masses."

Here are a few ideas for anybody out there who wonders what they should buy or look for when a little one is on the way. Some we bought ourselves and some were gifted to us by our families and friends. Gotta love Walmart.

Graco - Sarah 4-in-1 Convertible Classic Crib in Espresso:

Love the chocolate brown color, very chic. It's sturdy. No drop rail, which is safest. One person could assemble it, but another person for moral support and instruction reading is recommended (namely, the prego mom).

Graco - MetroLite Travel System, Rittenhouse:

I didn't want pink. I didn't want something that looked boyish. This pattern and color is classic. The carseat accommodates up to 32 lbs. or inches, whichever comes first, which will serve us longer than most average carseats out there; and that will save us money in the long run. Yay!

Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer:

No more shocking the baby tushy with cold wipes any time of day, especially in the wee hours of the morning or night. Even mommy kind of wanted one for herself. What will they think of next. There's a little green nightlight on it, but it doesn't illuminate much.

Pampers - Swaddlers Diapers with DRY MAX:

We've tried a few others, and the Swaddlers have delivered what it promises 99% of the time. The other 1% was just due to what's called a "blowout" (No. 2) and an improperly fitted loose diaper (No. 1). A wise friend and mommy told me never to buy too many diapers at one time because your baby will grow out of them as quickly as you go through them. That is a big fat fact.

Gerber Pre-folded Birdseye Cloth Diaper 12-Pack:

These aren't the days of my mom, strictly cloth diapers and diaper service (pickup at your house & returned clean), but this product still exists. We bought them because they make the BEST burp cloths. Absorbent, durable and cheap! Spit away, baby. Mama's got a dozen and can get more without breaking the bank.

Gerber - Long-Sleeve Onesies, 4-Pack:

My wise mommy friend also imparted this nugget of advice. She said onesies are another staple for a new baby. Get the longsleeves for newborns with the foldover hand flaps. They keep baby's fingers warm as well as protect them from scratching themselves. By the way, clipping baby's fingernails is like microsurgery!

Graco Lovin' Hug Baby Swing, Libby:

During a crying bender, the baby fell asleep in her carseat that daddy carried and swung in the living room -- in desperation, you get creative. The next day, I sought out a swing. This has a contoured shape similar to a carseat, is battery operated and has safety straps. We removed the senseless tray because I couldn't imagine a baby drinking or eating on it. Thank goodness for gadgets.

So there you go. A few basic things that we could not do without all from Walmart, from cheap to costly. I hope this info can help some new parents out there.

So a lot has happened, which explains my long silence. I got pregnant and gave birth on March 4, 2010 to a beautiful baby girl! I am a first-time mommy, so my life has drastically changed to say the least. Everything I once knew for 41 years on this earth is literally upside down, topsy turvy and some habits altogether a thing of the past -- like sleep. But I am happy and thankful for my bundle of joy, pee, poop and spitup for all its worth. My posts will now revolve around new motherhood, what I want, need and buy.

I hope you enjoy my blog during this exciting new phase of my life with the newest and cutest member of our family, Jolie :) And if you don't see a post for a while, rest assured I'm with you in spirit while bottle feeding at 4 a.m., and I will be back.

I've succumbed to the torn jeans look this summer. What the heck. I have skinny, boot, wide, baggy -- what's one super trendy light denim piece added to my denim family. Harem Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits are springing up everywhere. I wore them when I was a child. What I remember was having to remove the whole piece just to use the restroom. That didn't bother me so much as a kid as I know it would in perhaps a nice restaurant or something. Norma Kamali Does Organic to a Tee

I made a nice little discovery at Walmart while there to return something -- The Norma Kamali line. I've perused the clothes there, and mostly I wound up buying Danskin for working out and the occasional piece here and there for work. I spend most of my money on nonwork wear, go figure. I know her things as being form-fitted, sculptural, sexy and comfortable. She's now joined the ranks of other high-end designers and created an affordable Walmart line that is casual, modern, comfortable and AFFORDABLE.

I bought the Organic Cotton Bird Tee up top, Hooded Elbow-Sleeve Tunic Sweatshirt in black and Capri Leggings in grey. I was happy with them all. The cotton has substance, is soft, the pieces are well made and the fit is true and flattering. The bird tee is also made of organic cotton, which pleased me even more. My sis saw me wearing it this morning and has already gone and bought herself one.

Here's a pic of me with the tee on in medium. I'm actually looking forward to venturing into more of her line. I think ladies are catching on because sizes were limited in my local store. Shop at Wal-Mart online for the Norma Kamali line. Shipping is only 97 cents. The tee was $8, tunic $6 and leggings $10. How can you say no to prices like that. Splurge on the accessories like me. ;)

I am a little torn on these jumpsuit, shrug, harem-pant looking pieces from Yves Saint Laurent. While the silhouette, cut and fabrics are impeccably YSL, the low hanging crotches couldn't be remotely attractive on someone short like me. The models barely cut it, in my opinion.

What I likey are these crazy imaginative cage ankle booties! "Cage ankle bootie" sounds torturous, but I can see shoe lovers everywhere sacrificing comfort for the sake of these works of art.

The First Lady attended the Inauguration with Mr. President in an avocado-hued dress by Cuban-born American designer Isabel Toledo. It is a bit "old lady" looking, but it makes sense as not to detract from the formality of the day's ceremonies. Michelle did choose a contrasting green pump, which makes sense for one who has injected color in her wardrobe from day one. I look forward to Michelle Obama's outfits, and it's not since the late Princess Diana that I've felt this of a woman of such high esteem.

Eva Herzigova, famously known as a Victoria Secret, Sports Illustrated and Wonder Bra model, was spotted at the Grey Goose Vodka Character and Cocktails Party in London next to a gentleman named David Walliams. I don't know who he is, but his name does have a peculiar spelling. Even my spell checker is on to it. What I mostly noticed was the fringed high-heeled booties she has on. Fringe of course is back on in a big way this fall. Ankle boots with cocktail dresses is also huge. It's got a rocker fem feel, and it's great as the weather chills. If you have less than skinny legs like me, you could easily pair these shoes with black tights to keep it from cutting the legs off at the ankles and making you appear even more shorter.

I love the SPANX Reversible Tight-End Tights Panty Hose. They reverse to contrasting colors. My fave is the charcoal/black combination. These are tights with benefits because it has tummy and thigh control, so the clothes I put on are going to look even better, which makes me feel even better. I absolutely love and swear by my Spanx. I couldn't live without them.

I digress. Back to Eva's shoes, right? I found a couple pairs that carry on that same fun, fringy look that Eva's has.
